Mitrovica - About a thousand people of the northern part of Mitrovica demanded on Monday at the protest the release of Zvonko Veselinovic, who was arrested late last year on suspicion of committing many crimes.

The protest, organized by Veselinovics family and National Movement "Fatherland" began with a walk of citizens from the main bridge of the Ibar in the northern part of Mitrovica to the gate leading to the courthouse and police.

Borislav Pelevic, the deputy in the Serbian Parliament, spoke at the rally saying that the government keeps Veselinović  in prison because it  is the request of NATO, Angela Merkel, western power, otherwise he should have been freed.

Pelevic said Veselinovic is the only prisoner who is held in prison without any foundation, adding that it is a disgrace to the former government who arrested him, but if he is not released, it will be even bigger disgrace to the current government. This will mean that the current government is much alike the previous one, or perhaps even worse, Pelevic said, expressing hope that Veselenovic will be freed.

Zvonko’s sister, Dusica Veselinovic, spoke in the meeting, saying that her brother was unjustly arrested. She requested the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic to show the Serbian people, by setting Veselinovic free, that the government of Serbia is not a puppet government and the foreigners in Serbia cannot judge.

She called on the citizens of Mitrovica that if in 15 days Zvonko is not released to meet again and protest until he is released. Citizens carried placards on which was written:  "Free Zvonko", " Serbs should put on trial, not the Germans and Americans, "" For Zvonko for Serbia "," Criminals are in Belgrade, not in the north of Kosovo and Metohija "and so on.

The main street in the northern part of Mitrovica was blocked and the protest ended without incident.
